Dementia is a disease that affects people's brains by impairing their memory and judgment, which may cause them to act in ways that do not make sense to us. Join us as we explore possible reasons for wandering, resistance to bathing, wearing the same clothes for days on end, and wanting to go home, among other behaviors often associated with dementia, as well as strategies for caregivers to manage or alleviate these behaviors. Free resources will also be available to family caregivers.

Miniature Golf Fore Battle of the Books Fundraiser

The Friends of Carroll County Public Library invite you to join us for the second annual Miniature Golf Fore Battle of the Books fundraiser. The Eldersburg Branch will be transformed into an 18-hole miniature golf course. Teams of up to four people can sign up to play throughout the library. Last year's tournament was a lot of fun, and this year promises to be even better! Tickets on sale at https://library.carr.org/MiniGolf. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. From 9 am - 4 pm.
Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

KidWorks meets twice a month. At the 1st meeting we spend an hour planning a storytime for younger kids. At the 2nd meeting (6/22, 7/27, & 8/24) we present the storytime. You must come to both meetings to earn 3 service learning hours.

Join us for a reading of The Oblate's Confession by author William Peak. In the midst of a tale that touches the human in all of us, readers will find themselves treated to a history of the Dark Ages unlike anything available today outside of textbooks and original source material. Kirkus Reviews has given The Oblate’s Confession a starred review, calling it, an understated but entirely spellbinding debut novel. The Oblate’s Confession took silver in this year’s Benjamin Franklin Awards competition for Best New Voice: Fiction. Books will be available for sale and signing.

Drop by the Eldersburg Branch Library between 9:30 am and 12 pm for a free vision screening. The screening, for preschool aged children, will test for lazy eye, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and depth perception. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Offered in partnership with the Freedom District Lions Club.

The aha moment comes when you learn to transition from real life to fiction. The Needles Trade is a study of the history of the garment industry in Baltimore starting with its beginnings in the 19th century. Tales about hats, umbrellas, and men’s suits will be sewn together in the talk. There will also be discussion of the immigrants who worked in these sweatshops and the labor unions they eventually formed. Sonneborn, Greif, Polan Katz, Beehler, and Joseph A. Bank are just some of the companies that will be mentioned. A Celebrating America program.
