Want to build a castle? Or a spaceship? Or something totally new and different? Join us for a LEGO® program where you can build whatever you would like! We supply the blocks and you supply the creativity! Bring your dad or your mom and build together! Children 3 and under must be accompanied

Sew Into Flight

For ages 9 - 12
Registration for this event begins 5/4/2013.
Bring a bag lunch and come join us for a day of fun! Design, fabricate, and launch kites or parachutes. All participants will be introduced to hand and machine sewing while following patterns using flight-ready technical fabrics. All materials will be provided. Each participant will have their own tool set and will take home an original sky-tested project, a sketchbook, and patterns for further exploration. A snack and a bottle of water will be provided. This program will be led by FutureMakers. Refreshments will be served. From 10 AM - 3 PM.

And They're Off! Preakness in the Park

Celebrate the Preakness in the Mary Lou Dewey Sculpture Park at the Westminster Branch. Activities for the young and young-at-heart include relay races, a stomp the fly contest, a sugar-cube-in-the-haystack search, a scavenger hunt for horse items, and creating your own hat for the Preakness Celebration. Adults will have the opportunity to compete (and win a prize) for the most extravagant Preakness hat award. Refreshments will be served. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. This program is sponsored in part by a Community Arts Development Grant from the Carroll County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council. Come to the library and read a story to a book-loving dog. Research shows that children enjoy improving their reading skills by practice reading to animals. The dog will have an hour to spend at the library, readers will take turns as time allows. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
