About Summer Reading


Carroll County Public Library is part of the National Collaborative Summer Reading Program which prepares children for continued success through the development of early language skills and integrates differentiated literacy activities to motivate young adults to read and discuss books.

Dig Into Reading for Pre-Readers - Register or Log in here
Stop by your local library branch and pick up a game board that has activities designed for pre-readers! For every space you complete on the game board, you earn a ticket for a prize drawing, and when you complete the board, you earn a finishing prize! This summer will be filled with great prizes, free programs, and fun!

Dig Into Reading for Kids - Register or Log in here
It’s easy! Record the titles you read in your Reading Log or online. Earn a ticket for a prize drawing for every title you complete! When you complete 8 titles, you earn your finishing prize, coupons, and a chance to win a Toys“R”Us gift card. This summer will be filled with great prizes, free programs, and fun!

Sign up for the Summer Reading Program online! Use your online account to log the titles that you read, and then enter prize raffles for gift cards and more.

Groundbreaking Reads for Adults - Register or Log in here
Sign up and participate online for the Adult summer reading program! Enter the titles of the books you have read in your Summer Reading account. The more you read the more chances to win! There will be weekly prize drawing and $50.00 Target gift card grand prize. For book discussions join us on our Goodreads page.

Summer Reading is a cooperative project supported by the Maryland State Department of Education and public libraries of Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Dig Into Reading

June 1 – August 1 For kids and teens entering kindergarten through 12th grades See your artwork in print! Entries will be judged on originality, design, and creativity. Winning bookmarks will be printed and distributed to library branches.

Freedom Shrine Document Contest

June 1 – August 10 For kids and teens entering kindergarten through 12th grades Come into your local branch and answer a question about our highlighted historic document. Answer the question correctly and receive a raffle entry. *Must be signed up for Summer Reading to enter drawing

Events for Kids
Look for these programs coming soon to your local branch.

For ages 4 – Adult. Discover reading and the arts through an interactive theater performance using some of Dr. Seuss' most famous characters: Cat in the Hat, Horton, the Grinch, and more! This fun performance is presented by The Arts Coming Together in Carroll County (TACTICC). All attendees need to register.

For ages 3 – Adult. Can you name Peter Rabbit’s sisters? Come meet Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter in this rollicking puppet show that brings The Tale of Peter Rabbit to life like never before! You’ll really dig Peter Rabbit in his thrilling escapade through Mr. McGregor's vegetable garden. Parents, enjoy retelling the story with your children using the parent activity handout! Children age 3 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. All attendees need to register.

For ages 4 - Adult. Summer Reading ambassador Roger Lindsay transports kids 4 to 104 to a realm of magical happenings, illusions and laughter! Join Prop, the Magic Bunny, as he and Mr. Lindsay amaze and amuse in this show loaded with audience participation. You never know what surprises await you! All attendees need to register. This program is sponsored in part by a Community Arts Development Grant from the Carroll County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council.

For ages 2- Adult. Come on out to see Mr. Jon in concert! Silliness and songs for everyone! Mr. Jon and his guitar will get your hands clapping and your feet dancing in this show that's fun for the whole family! Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. All attendees need to register. This program is sponsored in part by a Community Arts Development Grant from the Carroll County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council.

For all ages. Margie Lynch, aka The Bubble Lady, presents an interactive bubble-filled show for children of all ages. Among the highlights of the show are: gigantic bubbles (up to 5 feet in diameter), long bubbles (up to 18 feet long), and smoke bubbles (made with dry ice and hot water.) Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. All attendees need to register. This program is supported by Mount Garage Doors in partnership with CCPL.
