About Summer Reading

Carroll County Public Library is part of the National Collaborative Summer Reading Program which prepares children for continued success through the development of early language skills and integrates differentiated literacy activities to motivate young adults to read and discuss books.

Every Hero Has a Story for Babies - Register or Log in here
Stop by your local library branch and pick up a game board that has activities designed for pre-readers! For every space you complete on the game board, you earn a ticket for a prize drawing, and when you complete the board, you earn a finishing prize! This summer will be filled with great prizes, free programs, and fun!

It’s easy! Record the titles you read in your Reading Log or online. Earn a ticket for a prize drawing for every title you complete! When you complete 8 titles, you earn your Hero prize, coupons, and a chance to win a Toys“R”Us gift card. This summer will be filled with great prizes, free programs, and fun!

Events for Kids

For all ages. Magical puppets, sing-along songs, contagious dances, and energy filled fun! Join Val and her puppets to participate in their zany performance. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. This program is sponsored in part by a Community Arts Development Grant from the Carroll County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council.

For ages 3 – Adult. Smart and sassy Little Red Riding Hood has goodies for Grandma. How shall she get them there? By taking the long road or going into the woods? Will Grandma get her snack or be a snack? Join us for a show full of surprises! Children age 3 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

For ages 4 - Adult. Summer Reading ambassador Roger Lindsay transports kids 4 to 104 to a realm of magical happenings, illusions, and laughter! Join Mr. Lindsay as he amazes and amuses in this show loaded with audience participation. You never know what surprises await you!

For all ages. Do you love reptiles? We do too! A naturalist will introduce us to some of these scaly creatures as well as share myths, histories, and benefits of these often misunderstood animals. Presented by the Scales and Tales program of the Maryland Park Service. This program is supported by Mount Garage Doors, Inc. in partnership with CCPL. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

For all ages. Back by popular demand, Mirabelle, the loveable Boston Terrier from the Happy Dog Adventure series, will be at your library! Mirabelle and her owner Mr. Muller will read their books, pose for photos, sign autographs, and give you a sneak preview of Mirabelle's upcoming adventures. You won't want to miss the chance to be part of the Adventures of Mirabelle. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

For all ages. Join the stars of Mo Willems' Elephant and Piggie series as they act out some of their favorite stories. Children and parents alike will enjoy this lively, interactive show that incorporates music and imaginative play. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
