The person in this position performs a variety of circulation and technical clerical functions related to providing public service in the daily operation of the Storytime Express and Transit vehicles including circulation of material, shelving, merchandising, and processing materials, etc. This position is based in the Outreach Department.

Job summary:
Performs clerical functions to support one or more of the following departments at library headquarters: Technical Services, Reception, ILL, Outreach, Human Resources, Finance and Analysis, and Communications; works under direct supervision of department supervisor; performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:
May perform any or all of the following activities at library headquarters:
1. Physically processes materials accurately and in a timely manner, including but not limited to producing and applying labels, date-stamping, and packaging;
2. Inputs materials accurately into library’s automated system, including but not limited to verifying labels and bibliographic records, applying barcodes, and modifying holdings’ records as necessary;
3. Receives materials, including but not limited to unpacking boxes, checking packing slips, creating invoices, and sorting materials;
4. Provides general clerical support including but not limited to applying postage to mail, preparing materials for USPS shipment, copying materials, receiving supply shipments, filling staff/branch supply requisitions, title paging, and accepting deliveries;
5. Greets, directs, and assists visitors;
6. Answers telephone, takes and distributes messages, and transfers calls;
7. Sorts and distributes US mail and interlibrary delivery materials to Headquarters and branch mailboxes;
8. Reads daily newspapers for library specific information, records all incoming checks and cash payments, secures funds until deposits are made;
9. Familiar with HQ emergency procedures, takes attendance when staff must exit building during emergencies;
10. Provides clerical support to HQ departments;
11. Processes interlibrary loan requests, including MARINA and OCLC requests;
12. Books meeting rooms as directed and maintains knowledge of meeting room policies;
13. Scans and indexes documents into the document storage system, maintaining paper files;
14. Performs varied duties in the HR, Finance, and Communications departments;
15. Performs Outreach Circulation Assistant duties;
16. May participate in meetings, teams/committees/workgroups, outreach activities and training opportunities, as appropriate;
17. Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.
Education and Experience:
1. High School diploma or G.E.D.;
2. No previous experience required;
3. Or equivalent technical training, education, and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Working knowledge of library’s materials processing, inputting, and receiving functions;
2. Working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system and the basic principles of library organization;
3. Keyboarding skills;
4. Basic secretarial skills;
5. Familiarity with relevant computer equipment and associated software applications;
6. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment and machines, including copiers, and postage meters;
7. Commitment to excellent internal and external customer service;
8. Effective communication skills.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work typically requires light physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes, or equipment in non-strenuous work positions. Work may occasionally demand strenuous effort in the handling of moderately heavy boxes or materials.The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, and libraries, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
